ABOUT AVELA
At AVELA Trust, We Believe A Better World Is Possible
AVELA Trust aims to strengthen climate resilience in overlooked communities by restoring ecosystems, supporting sustainable livelihoods and ensuring women are central to this. We believe climate based programmes are strongest when they are community-led and inclusive. Women are not only disproportionately affected by climate stress, they are knowledge holders and drivers of local adaptation. Our mission is to partner gender equity with green humanitarian action, showing that environmental restoration and women’s empowerment are not separate goals, but mutually reinforcing foundations.
AVELA Trust is grounded in humanitarian values and guided by the belief that lasting change must be climate-aware.
Our name reflects the five pillars that shape what we do:
- Adaptation: Supporting, not directing communities as they respond to a rapidly changing climate
• Vital Communities: Strengthening local livelihoods, with women recognised as central economic and environmental actors
• Ecological Balance: Restoring the natural systems that sustain food, water and life
• Local Wisdom: Valuing traditional knowledge, particularly women’s knowledge, alongside practical innovation
• Advocacy: Raising awareness of overlooked climate contexts and championing a more responsible model of humanitarian development
Our approach is holistic and respectful. We do not arrive with ready-made answers. We listen first, build trust and work alongside communities. At AVELA, gender inclusion is not an additional theme. It is part of how resilience is built.
